Orofino is a small river town in north-central Idaho that sits along the scenic Clearwater River. US Highway 12 runs right through downtown, connecting to Lewiston 35 miles west and continuing east toward Montana. The highway follows the river valley and offers one of Idaho's most beautiful drives through forested hills. The historic Idaho State Hospital North, with its red-brick buildings perched on a hill above town, has been a local landmark since 1918.
