Orient is a small Franklin County town of about 400 people in southern Illinois farm country. Take I-57 to the Benton or West Frankfort exits, then head west on local roads. Most trips are short runs to nearby towns for errands, though some visitors drive down from Chicago or over from St. Louis. The area still shows traces of its old coal mining heritage.
