Opelousas is the parish seat of St. Landry Parish, located about 20 miles north of Lafayette via Interstate 49. The city sits at the crossroads of I-49 and US Highway 190, with most visitors arriving from Lafayette or Baton Rouge. Opelousas calls itself the "Spice Capital of the World" and is home to Tony Chachere's Famous Creole Seasoning headquarters.
