Oolitic is a small Lawrence County town in south-central Indiana, located on State Road 37 about four miles south of Bedford and 25 miles from Bloomington. The main route from Indianapolis follows SR-37 south for roughly 70 miles, while SR-58 provides east-west connections to Mitchell and other county communities. Named after oolitic limestone, the town sits in the heart of Indiana's historic limestone quarrying region that supplied stone for the Empire State Building.
