Olpe is a small farming town in east-central Kansas, 25 miles southwest of Emporia via US Highway 99. The main route from major cities uses Interstate 35 to Emporia, then Highway 99 southwest through rolling Flint Hills prairie. The historic Olpe Chicken House restaurant, operating since 1946 in a converted 1920s gas station, serves legendary family-style fried chicken that draws visitors from across the region.
