Oil Trough is a tiny Arkansas community of about 260 people in Independence County, sitting along the White River about 100 miles north of Little Rock via Highway 167. The town lies in fertile river valley farmland where the Ozark foothills level out. Most visitors arrive from Little Rock or Memphis, with Batesville Regional Airport 15 miles away providing the nearest commercial flights. The community earned its memorable name from natural oil seeps early settlers found in a trough-shaped depression by the river.
