Ocean City is Maryland's premier beach resort, sitting on a barrier island connected to the mainland by Route 50. The town swells from 7,000 year-round residents to hundreds of thousands during summer. Most visitors drive Route 50 west from DC and Baltimore, while northern routes use Route 113 through Delaware. The three-mile boardwalk has housed Dolle's saltwater taffy shop since 1910.
