Oblong is a small farming town in southeastern Illinois, accessible via US Route 33 and State Route 130. Located about 20 miles from the Indiana border, it sits amid rolling agricultural land typical of Crawford County. The town serves as a quiet crossroads for local traffic heading to Robinson, Lawrenceville, and the regional oil fields, with Interstate 70 about 25 miles north providing long-distance connections. Oblong gets its distinctive name from the oblong-shaped prairie where it was founded in 1883.
