Oakley is a classic highway town on Interstate 70 in western Kansas, about 270 miles west of Salina. Most visitors are cross-country travelers stopping for gas and food at the truck stops near I-70's intersection with US Highway 83. The surrounding high plains stretch endlessly in all directions, dotted with wheat fields and cattle operations. The town's Fick Fossil and History Museum displays an impressive T-rex skeleton found locally.
