Oak Ridge sits 25 miles west of Knoxville in Tennessee's Clinch River valley. Take I-40 to Exit 356, then follow SR-58 (Oak Ridge Turnpike) into the city. Most visitors drive from Knoxville, while locals use SR-62 and US-27 for county connections. The city was built from scratch in 1942 as a secret Manhattan Project community, and you can still see the original planned layout with curved streets designed to create distinct neighborhoods.
