Nucla, CO

united states

Nucla is tucked into western Colorado's remote Paradox Valley, about 80 miles from Grand Junction via the winding Highway 141 through red rock canyons. Most visitors arrive from Grand Junction or take Highway 97 from Montrose. The town was founded in 1894 as a utopian socialist colony, and its name cleverly combines "nucleus" and "Colorado."
