Novato lies 30 miles north of San Francisco along Highway 101, the main route connecting it to the Bay Area and North Bay cities like Santa Rosa. Route 37 links it to Vallejo and the East Bay. The former Hamilton Air Force Base, now a residential development, features an original 1930s Art Deco control tower that's visible from the freeway.
