Norton is a small county seat in north-central Kansas, positioned along US Highway 36, the main east-west route across northern Kansas. Highway 383 runs north-south through town, connecting to Interstate 70 near Hays about 60 miles south. The surrounding prairie offers straight, flat roads typical of western Kansas. Norton serves as the gateway to Prairie Dog State Park, which features one of the state's largest fishing lakes just 15 miles west of town.
