Northwood is a farming town of about 1,000 people in eastern North Dakota, 20 miles northwest of Grand Forks on US Highway 2. The highway connects it to Devils Lake to the west and runs east toward Minnesota, while State Highway 18 provides north-south access. The massive Cargill grain elevator towers over the flat prairie landscape and serves as a landmark visible for miles.
