North Adams occupies a mountain valley in northwestern Massachusetts, connected to major cities by scenic Route 2 (Mohawk Trail) east to Boston and west to Albany. The former mill town now centers around the massive Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Routes 7 and 8 provide north-south access through the Berkshires, with I-90 about 45 minutes south. The restored 1900 railroad freight yard at Western Gateway Heritage State Park sits beside the historic Hoosac Tunnel.
