Nome is a remote Alaskan city on the Bering Sea, famous as the Iditarod finish line. No roads connect it to the main Alaska highway system, so most visitors fly into Nome Airport, 3 miles from downtown. Local routes include the 72-mile Nome-Council Highway and the road to Teller. You can still pan for gold on Front Street beach, where the 1899 gold rush began.
