Niotaze is a tiny farming town of under 100 people in southeastern Kansas, about 15 miles east of Independence via US Highway 160. Most visitors drive the short route from Independence, which has the nearest airport and services. The town sits among cattle ranches and wheat fields in classic Great Plains country. Its 1902 one-room schoolhouse still stands as a piece of local history.
