Newton is a small city in western North Carolina's foothills, about 10 miles from Hickory and 45 miles northwest of Charlotte. US 321 runs right through town connecting to I-40, making it a convenient stop for travelers heading to the mountains or Charlotte. The historic red brick Catawba County Courthouse from 1924 still dominates the downtown square as the county seat.
