Newaygo is a small county seat along the Muskegon River, about 45 miles northeast of Grand Rapids via M-37. The route passes through farmland and forest, taking roughly an hour from the city. M-82 runs east-west through town, connecting to US-131 near Big Rapids. The historic 1883 Opera House on State Street still hosts live performances in its original Victorian theater.
