New Ulm is a German-heritage city in south-central Minnesota, 90 miles southwest of Minneapolis via Highway 169 south to Mankato, then Highway 14 west. The town sits along the Minnesota River with distinctive European architecture throughout downtown. Highway 14 runs east-west through the city while Highway 15 provides the north-south connection. The 102-foot Hermann Heights Monument offers commanding views of the entire river valley.
