New Franklin is a small Missouri River town in Howard County, about 20 miles northwest of Columbia. Highway 5 provides the main access from Interstate 70, with most visitors coming from Columbia for a quick 30-minute drive. The town sits on higher ground after the original Franklin was destroyed by river flooding in 1826, forcing residents to rebuild at the current location.
