New Era is a small Lake Michigan community in Oceana County with 433 residents, located 15 miles northeast of Muskegon. US-31 provides the main access route along Michigan's western shore, connecting to Grand Rapids via US-37. The town features a distinctive giant concrete Indian statue that has greeted US-31 travelers since the 1960s.
