New Deal is a small farming town of 668 people located 15 miles northeast of Lubbock on US Highway 87. Most visitors drive the 20-minute route from Lubbock through cotton country, while longer trips typically connect via Interstate 27 from Dallas or US 87 from Amarillo. The town was established during the Great Depression as part of a federal resettlement program and remains one of the few places in Texas directly named after FDR's New Deal policies.
