New Augusta is a small county seat in southeastern Mississippi, located about 20 miles northeast of Hattiesburg on Highway 29. Most visitors arrive via I-59 to Hattiesburg, then take Highway 29 through pine forest country. The town sits at the geographic center of Perry County and serves as a quiet stopover between the Gulf Coast and central Mississippi. Despite being one of the state's smallest county seats with just 590 residents, it maintains its role as Perry County's administrative center.
