New Athens is a small Illinois city about 40 miles southeast of St. Louis, accessible via I-64 east to Exit 14, then Route 13 south. The town sits at the crossroads of Routes 13 and 15 in St. Clair County's farm country. It's home to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, one of North America's largest outdoor religious shrines spanning 200 acres.
