Napaskiak is a Yup'ik village of 447 people on Alaska's Kuskokwim River, accessible only by small aircraft through its gravel airstrip or via Bethel Airport 15 miles upriver. No roads reach the community, making aviation the sole year-round transportation option from Anchorage or other Alaska destinations. The village maintains traditional Yup'ik culture, including one of Alaska's few remaining dance groups that performs with authentic grass fans made from local materials.
