Murfreesboro is a small college town in northeastern North Carolina, home to about 3,000 people and Chowan University. It's the Hertford County seat, sitting along the Meherrin River about 20 miles from Virginia. US 158 is the main drag, running east-west through downtown and connecting to Roanoke Rapids and I-95 to the west. The historic campus with its red-brick buildings dates back to 1848.
