Murchison is a small East Texas town of 568 people, located 15 miles southwest of Athens and 75 miles from Dallas via US Highway 175. State Highway 31 provides east-west access, while Farm Road 317 runs north-south through town. The area features rolling pine forest terrain typical of the Piney Woods region. The town's restored 1920s railroad depot recalls its heritage along the old Texas and Pacific Railway line.
