Mullan is a small mountain town of 890 people along Interstate 90 in northern Idaho's Silver Valley, near the Montana border. The former mining community sits at 2,800 feet elevation between forested peaks. I-90 provides direct access, connecting to Coeur d'Alene 50 miles west and Missoula 120 miles east, while State Route 4 leads north into national forest lands. The historic Mullan Tree, a massive ponderosa pine that marked the original military road route in the 1860s, still stands in town.
