Muir is a farming community of 490 people in Ionia County, about 30 miles northeast of Grand Rapids via I-96 and M-66. The village sits along the Maple River in agricultural country, with M-66 running north-south through town and M-57 providing east-west access to Greenville and beyond. The old railroad depot, now a community center, marks the town's heritage as a former rail stop.
