Mud Lake is a small farming town of 491 people in southeastern Idaho's potato country, about 40 miles northwest of Idaho Falls via I-15 and Highway 28. It's a practical pit stop for travelers heading between Yellowstone and Sun Valley, sitting where several rural highways converge in the Snake River Plain. The town got its name from a nearby shallow lake that turns muddy each spring during snowmelt runoff.
