Mountain Iron is a small Iron Range city of 2,860 people in northern Minnesota's St. Louis County. Take US Highway 169 as the main route through town, connecting north to Virginia or south toward the Twin Cities about three hours away. State Highway 37 links east to Eveleth and other Iron Range communities. The area's economy centers on iron ore mining, with the massive Minntac taconite processing plant producing millions of tons of iron ore pellets each year.
