Mountain City is a tiny Hill Country community in Hays County, about 30 miles southwest of Austin via I-35 and FM 2770. With under 800 residents, it sits where the coastal plains meet the limestone hills of central Texas. San Marcos Regional Airport is 15 miles southeast. Despite its ambitious name, the town sits at just 700 feet elevation.
