Mountain Brook is an upscale suburb nestled in the hills just 8 miles southeast of downtown Birmingham. Major routes include I-65 along the western edge, US 280 as the main east-west connector, and I-459 forming the southern loop. Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport sits 15 miles northwest via I-65. The city is home to the original Piggly Wiggly building, where self-service grocery shopping was invented in 1916.
