Mount Vernon, a city of about 4,500 in southwestern Missouri's Lawrence County, sits along US Highway 60 about 40 miles northeast of Springfield. Most visitors arrive via US 60 or State Route 39, which connects north to Nevada, Missouri. The city serves as the county's commercial hub in the rolling Ozark foothills.
