Mount Sterling is a small county seat in west-central Illinois, about 40 miles from Quincy via US Route 24. The town of 2,000 sits in rolling farmland and connects to I-72 through rural highways. Most visitors come from Springfield (65 miles southeast) or Quincy for business at the courthouse or local events. The 1870s courthouse features a working clock tower that's been marking time for over 150 years.
