Mount Olive is a small farming town of about 1,900 people along Interstate 55, roughly 40 miles south of Springfield. Take Exit 44 off I-55 to reach the city center. The town sits amid central Illinois corn and soybean country, with Route 138 connecting east-west to Litchfield and other regional communities. Mother Jones, the famous labor organizer, is buried in the Union Miners Cemetery here.
