Mount Carroll is a small county seat in northwestern Illinois, about 45 minutes from both Rockford and the Quad Cities. Take I-88 to Route 26 north, or use Route 78 which runs right through town connecting to the Mississippi River corridor. The historic downtown retains its 19th-century charm, surrounded by typical Illinois farmland. Shimer College operates here with its unique Great Books curriculum and Socratic discussion-based classes.
