Mount Carmel is the Wabash County seat in southeastern Illinois, sitting along the Wabash River near the Indiana border. Take Exit 130 from I-64 to Route 15 north, or use US Route 50 which runs right through downtown. Popular drives include the 20-mile trip east to Vincennes, Indiana, and connections north via Route 1 to Olney. The 1908 courthouse downtown still chimes the hours from its working clock tower.
