Mound City is a farming town of 90 people in north-central South Dakota, sitting along US Highway 83 about 45 miles northwest of Aberdeen. The highway provides the main north-south route through Campbell County's agricultural landscape. The town gets its name from Native American burial mounds that once dotted the surrounding prairie.
