Moonshine is a tiny river community in St. James Parish, about 45 miles west of New Orleans along the historic River Road (LA-18). Reach it via I-10 to the Gramercy exit, then follow the scenic route past plantation homes and sugarcane fields. The area gets its name from Prohibition-era bootleggers who used this isolated river bend to produce illegal whiskey.
