Montreat is a small mountain community about 15 miles east of Asheville, accessible via I-40 to Exit 64, then north on NC-9. This Presbyterian conference center town sits at 2,500 feet elevation in the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering cooler temperatures year-round. The historic Montreat Conference Center has operated since 1897 and still features its original train depot from the days when visitors arrived by rail.
