Montezuma is a farming town of 1,400 people in central Iowa, about an hour east of Des Moines on Highway 6. The route connects Des Moines to Iowa City through corn and soybean country. Highway 85 runs north-south through town to smaller rural communities. The 1909 limestone courthouse with its prominent clock tower dominates the town square and can be seen for miles across the prairie.
