Monroe sits 30 miles northeast of Seattle along US Highway 2, serving as a gateway to the Cascades. The main route connects through Everett to I-5, while State Route 203 links north-south through the valley. Most traffic heads west toward Seattle or east to mountain recreation areas. The town hosts the massive Evergreen State Fair each August, one of Washington's biggest county fairs.
