Monowi is Nebraska's smallest incorporated town with just one resident who serves as mayor, librarian, and bartender. Located in Boyd County's ranch country about 90 miles northwest of Norfolk via Highway 275 and Highway 12, it's reachable by gravel roads that can be tricky in winter. The Monowi Tavern houses a 5,000-book library in its back room.
