Monessen is a small Pennsylvania city along the Monongahela River, about 25 miles southeast of Pittsburgh via I-70 and Route 481. The town sits in the Allegheny foothills where the river bends through Westmoreland County. Route 906 runs east-west through the city center, while US-19 provides access from the south. The 200-foot blast furnace stack from the old Monessen Works still towers over downtown as a reminder of the area's steel industry past.
