Modesto is a tiny farming community in central Illinois with just 145 residents, located in Macoupin County's agricultural heartland. Reach it via I-55 to Carlinville, then southwest on local roads, or take Route 4 south from Springfield (45 minutes). The area was once coal mining country, and you can still spot old mine sites scattered across the rural landscape.
