Mitchell is a tiny high desert town in central Oregon with just 127 residents, sitting where Bridge Creek meets the John Day River. It's a four-hour drive from Portland via Highway 26 through the scenic John Day Fossil Beds, or two hours northwest from Bend. The restored 1899 schoolhouse now serves as a local museum.
