Minot AFB is a military community 13 miles north of Minot via US Highway 83. The base houses B-52 bombers and missile operations on North Dakota's northern plains. Most visitors arrive through Minot, connecting from US 2 or US 52, with long-distance travelers using Interstate 94 through Bismarck about 100 miles south. The distinctive B-52 Stratofortress aircraft are regularly visible during training flights over the surrounding prairie.
