Mindenmines is a small farming community of about 300 people in southwestern Missouri's Barton County, sitting on the Ozark plateau near the Kansas border. Take Highway 160 from either Lamar or the state line to reach town, or connect via Highway 71 from Joplin about 20 minutes away. The town's unusual name comes from German coal mining terminology used by early settlers who worked the area's former mines.
